Qi does not look at the PSC inspection in isolation but examines how it interacts with the other factors considered by the model. The Qi algorithm distinguishes between: ships that have never been inspected by PSC, those that have a clean record, those with an average record and those with a below average record. It is hard to generalise here as the effect of having deficiencies differs depending on the other indicators upon which the vessel is rated. This means the impact of having, for example, 3 deficiencies at inspection can cause the rating to go up and down depending on the balance of factors and inputs considered by the model.
