The GHG Rating compares ships on a like-for-like basis, providing a level playing field for assessment. According to RightShip’s methodology, using design specifications is the best way to achieve this comparison as all factors are considered at a set level (e.g. speed at 75%, engine performance, fuel consumption etc.).

Comparatively, analysing operational data is quite difficult, as it can vary depending on wind, waves, currents, cargo carried, charter speed, and so on. This in turn can influence the consistency & accuracy of the like-for-like comparison.

By comparing ships of a similar size and type, RightShip gives charterers, shipowners, banks and ports a reliable assessment of the relative efficiency of each ship in an easy to interpret A-G rating.
